Dark Meditations is a sound-based series at the Center for Contemporary Art, in which musicians and sound artists are invited to perform in darkness, and to approach it as material and as a point of departure. The upcoming event will feature three artists active in the fields of sound and experimental music: Amit Dagim, Yaara Haim, and Daniel Shushan.

Amit Dagim is a musician and sound artist living and working in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. His creative process combines modular synthesis, feedback systems, and digital tools to create unconventional rhythms and seemingly acoustic “creaturely” voices, as well as virtual instruments, and mysterious organic sound environments. In his work, he explores chaotic behaviors and acoustic qualities within synthetic sound, as well as experiments with the electric guitar and its possibilities within the context of electronic music.

Yaara Haim is a multidisciplinary music artist living and working in Jerusalem. In her experimental project Turntable Crash, she uses turntables and broken records as musical instruments, creating unique textures, loops, rhythms, and sonic images. Her work explores the encounter between material, texture, and chance, and the ways in which these materials are transformed into etched musical grooves.

Daniel Shushan is a composer and multidisciplinary artist living and working in Berlin. Shushan works in the fields of electronic, concrete, and minimal music. His practice is influenced by his work as an electronics technician specializing in sound equipment, and he approaches the analog studio as a central working tool. Sounds from tape machines and measuring equipment, recordings of live instruments, and field recordings are stretched and woven into dark, slow, and repetitive sonic textures, with an almost psychoactive quality.
